TRUST CENTER · SCIENTIFIC PHILOSOPHY
Evidence over trends.
GlowCheck is an evidence-based ingredient-intelligence platform. We evaluate the science of what's in a product — its intrinsic safety, its exposure-adjusted risk, and its manufacturing quality — through the lens of regulatory toxicology. We do not diagnose skin conditions, prescribe routines, or recommend product alternatives.
Our philosophy
Ingredient safety is often communicated as if it were a moral category: "clean" versus "toxic". That framing is scientifically wrong, and it leads to worse decisions than the ones it's trying to prevent. Every substance — natural or synthetic — has a hazard profile at some dose. What matters is the exposure a real person receives from a real product under real conditions of use.
We report ingredient safety the way a regulatory toxicologist does: exposure-adjusted, honest about uncertainty, and grounded in current published evidence and regulatory review.
Hazard vs. risk
Hazard is what a substance is capable of doing at some concentration and route of exposure.
Risk is the likelihood of harm for a specific product, at its actual concentration, on its actual product type (leave-on, rinse-off, spray), at the frequency a person actually uses it.
GlowCheck evaluates risk. A hazard-only list would flag water as a concern because inhaling it can cause harm — a statement that is technically true and practically useless.
How we evaluate a product
Every full report combines seven inputs, weighted by an exposure-based Margin of Safety framework:
·
Ingredient hazard profiles from peer-reviewed literature and regulatory dossiers (SCCS, CIR, US FDA, Health Canada, EU CosIng, ICCR).
·
Product type — leave-on, rinse-off, spray — and its systemic vs local exposure implications.
·
Frequency of use assumptions grounded in ICCR real-world use surveys.
·
Concentration — when provided — or a conservative screen when concentrations are unavailable.
·
Sensitive-population lens where scientifically justified (pregnancy, breastfeeding, pediatric).
·
Personalized exposure inputs (body weight, sex, age, region) where the user opts in.
·
Manufacturing and contaminant considerations — surfaced separately, never conflated with intrinsic ingredient safety.
Evidence confidence
Every full report displays one of four confidence levels — high · moderate · emerging · limited — reflecting the strength and consistency of the underlying scientific evidence. This is separate from the verdict itself.
When evidence is mixed, we say so. When long-term data is limited, we say so. We do not manufacture certainty.
Manufacturing quality is not ingredient safety
Ingredient safety and ingredient quality are related but scientifically distinct. Two products with identical ingredient lists can differ in the presence of manufacturing impurities (residual solvents, 1,4-dioxane, nitrosamines, heavy metals, PFAS, benzene). This depends on raw material sourcing, Good Manufacturing Practices, and analytical verification — not on the intrinsic toxicological profile of the ingredient.
GlowCheck surfaces manufacturing considerations as a separate section with its own confidence indicator. We never reduce a product's human safety score based solely on theoretical contamination risk.
Where evidence is evolving
Cosmetic toxicology is not static. New long-term studies, new regulatory decisions, and new analytical methods regularly refine how ingredients are evaluated. GlowCheck reflects that. Reports are versioned; evidence review dates are timestamped on every report footer. When a scientific consensus shifts, our assessment shifts with it.
What GlowCheck is not
GlowCheck evaluates ingredient toxicology, exposure, manufacturing quality, contaminant risk, and regulatory status. GlowCheck is not:
·
a dermatologist or medical provider
·
a treatment recommendation engine
·
a skin-diagnosis tool
·
a beauty advisor or product recommender
·
a routine builder
For medical, allergic, or diagnostic questions, please consult a dermatologist, allergist, or OB-GYN.
Our commitment
We commit to transparent methodology, calm language, and honest uncertainty. We commit to versioned assessments and open review dates. We commit to evidence over trends. And we commit to staying in our lane: ingredient safety and exposure science — done rigorously.
Have a scientific concern or peer-reviewed source we should consider in a future evidence review? Email science@getglowcheck.app. We review submissions from qualified toxicologists, regulators, and clinicians.
